Measurement & Layout

Tape Measure tools

Use standard, rotation, and center-to-center tape options for accurate layout down to the millimeter.

Autostrek ships three tape-measure variants: the standard tool, Rotation mode for off-axis checks, and the center-to-center (c/c) version for laying out repeating members.

Standard tape measure

  1. Activate the tape tool (T).
  2. Click your start point; use snaps to lock to corners, midpoints, or grid intersections.
  3. Click the end point to see total distance plus axis deltas in the HUD.

Rotation function

Measure diagonals or sloped members without building reference geometry.

  1. Use the rotation slider in the tape measure panel to enter Rotation mode.
  2. Align the temporary axis with a roof plane, beam, or custom angle by snapping to two reference points.
  3. Measure along the rotated axis—Autostrek displays both projected length and real 3D distance.

Use rotation for roof slopes; use c/c tape to lay out stairs

Rotation mode is perfect for roof slopes, but use the c/c tape measure to design stairs so you can mark individual risers and treads accurately.

c/c tape measure

Generate multiple objects at equal spacing without copying manually.

  1. Turn on the c/c tape measure (C) and pick a base object.
  2. Enter the desired center-to-center spacing (e.g., 600 mm) in the HUD.
  3. Use the bevel function after placement to trim or angle object ends for rafters, braces, or other components that need precise cuts.
  4. Rotate the c/c guide in any direction to lay out complex geometry—stairs, roof slopes, or diagonal walls—without helper lines.
  5. Drag in the direction you want repeats; Autostrek previews how many studs, rafters, or beams will be created.
  6. Use the mirror objects command after placing a run to duplicate the layout anywhere symmetrically, not just across walls.
  7. Confirm to generate the set—each object becomes editable framing.

Remembered settings

The c/c tool remembers your last spacing and object type. Double-check the HUD before generating a new run or you may reuse an old configuration without realizing it.
