Recommended test
Calculate a simple beam roof and trace its ridge reactions through the generated support details.
- Choose Gable and Beam in Build, enable Automatic roof dimensions and enter ground snow load.
- Review roof dead load, selected C24 rafters, GL30c ridge beam and support reactions.
- Generate a supported rectangular gable opening and inspect the header and jamb/post placement within the wall.
- Open Update opening headers and confirm the automatic-origin warning before making a manual change.
- Save/reopen and verify that the customization remains and requires resolution before automatic recalculation.
Enable automatic roof dimensions
In Build, choose Gable > Beam, then enable Automatic roof dimensions in the dimension sidebar. Enter characteristic ground snow load in kN/m², adjusted for the site and altitude. A snow-zone number is not automatically converted to a load.
The preliminary beam-roof calculation selects C24 rafters and a GL30c glulam ridge beam together. This is a separate, simplified calculation from the Code_Aster truss workflow. Generate the building to apply the sections to the model and material/cutting lists.
Turn automatic sizing off to edit dimensions manually; the selected sections and grades remain. Older projects remain Manual unless you enable the feature.
Review assumptions and reactions
Expand Assumptions and results for roof weight, service class, spans, preliminary utilisation, deflection estimates and support reactions. Roof dead load starts at 1.0 kN/m² of sloping roof, excluding rafters. Review the intended layers, ceiling and equipment; changing the covering does not calculate a new weight automatically.
The supported case is a simple single-storey gable roof under the pilot’s gravity-load assumptions. If a section cannot be found or the context is unsupported, resolve the reported issue or disable Automatic to continue Manual modelling.
Integrated ridge supports
For supported gable walls, the generator fits posts or a header with C24 jamb packs around a simple rectangular opening. Reinforcement stays within the wall thickness; affected studs and existing headers are replaced or fitted instead of duplicating the same space. Opening dimensions and positions remain unchanged, and the ordinary CC grid is retained outside the local reinforcement.
The proposed supports are shown in amber. Trace their loads through the building. Bottom-plate contact bearing is included where applicable; the floor, foundation and anchoring below are not sized. Ordinary eave studs and top plates still need separate verification.
Editing a calculated header
Update opening headers identifies calculated headers and warns that a manual edit invalidates their automatic support assessment. These headers preserve the opening’s clear height and stay centred in the wall. Increasing depth can fit the upper post; reducing it can leave a support gap.
Manual edits survive save/reopen. Resolve or reset the customization before automatic recalculation, or keep the design Manual. Follow the existing edited-object review when rebuilding; inspect the complete support detail after a change.
Current limits
Dormers, porches/extensions, upper storeys, edited roof/support members and unsupported sloping or facade openings need a different model. Internal partitions are not automatically treated as bearings.
The result is preliminary sizing, not construction approval. Wind, drift, cuts/notches, rafter bearings, connections, frame stability and the complete load path remain outside this check. Norwegian National Annex requirements and the actual project conditions still need engineering review.
