Recommended test
Place two different windows, then reuse one window's size and edited grille for a third.
- Open O-framer, choose a window preset and click its grille icon. Choose Full four.
- Select the centre vertical bar and change only its width. Confirm the Edited badge, apply the grille and check the faint grille lines in the purple preview. Resize it, then place the first window with Set.
- Choose No grille and place a second window. Resize the preview for the next opening.
- Click the first window in the viewport or its name under Placed windows. Confirm the copied dimensions and Full four pattern, then place another window.
- Edit or hide the new window's grille and check that the first window is unchanged. Save and reopen the .strek project, then edit the grille again.
Add a grille to a new window
- Open O-framer and select a window preset in Opening presets.
- Click the small grille icon beside the preset to open Window grilles.
- Choose a starting pattern from the gallery. Adjust it if needed, then click Apply grilles.
- Position and size the opening in the viewport, then click Set to place the window with its grille.
Grilles are available for windows. Each window uses one grille pattern. Choosing a different pattern replaces the previous pattern on that window.
Faint grille lines inside the purple placement preview show the selected design, including edited bar widths and partial bars. They follow the preview as you move or resize it, so you can check the arrangement before placing the window. Resizing keeps the chosen grille. No grille, hidden grilles and door presets show no grille lines.
Choose a starting pattern
The gallery shows all six patterns in one row on wider screens and three per row on smaller screens, keeping the thumbnails easy to compare.
| Pattern | Arrangement |
|---|---|
| Upper four | Four small panes in the upper half and one large pane below |
| Top pair | Two small panes at the top and one large pane below |
| Full four | A full-height centre bar and a middle horizontal bar forming four panes |
| Paired upper four | Eight small panes across the upper third and two tall panes below |
| 4 × 3 grid | Four columns and three rows, with an editable centre bar |
| 3 × 3 grid | Three columns and three rows |
These are editable starting points. Add or remove horizontal and vertical bars to make your own design, and give it a recognisable Grille name.
Edit one bar or the whole grille
Click a bar in the preview, or choose it in Selected bar. Drag it into position or type its distance From left or From top. Measurements follow the current CAD unit and refer to the glass area inside the window frame.
Change Bar width or Bar depth to affect only the selected bar. For example, select the centre vertical bar to make it wider while leaving the horizontal bars unchanged.
Choose All bars to change a dimension across the entire grille. Mixed means the bars have different values. Changing width for All bars gives them the same width while keeping their individual depths. Colour applies to the whole grille.
A bar’s Start and End can use a measurement or another perpendicular bar. A linked end follows that bar when it moves, keeping short upper divisions connected. Bars fit the actual glass contour, including supported sloped-top windows.
Click Apply grilles to keep your edits, or Cancel to discard the draft.
An Edited badge appears when a design differs from its starting library pattern. Look beside Grille name in the editor, beside saved designs and placed-window grilles in the sidebar, and in the copied-window notice. Changing bar positions, lengths, dimensions, bar count or colour shows the badge; restoring the original design clears it. Renaming, hiding, copying or resizing the window alone does not mark the grille as edited.
Understand the two sidebar lists
| List | What its controls affect |
|---|---|
| Grille for new windows | Reusable designs for the selected window preset. Click a design’s name or radio button to use it for future windows. Choose No grille for a plain window. |
| Placed windows | Windows already in the model. Click the window name to copy its size and grille for the next placement. Click its pattern name or Edit to change that window’s grille. |
The preset’s grille icon opens the gallery to create another reusable design. Previous designs remain selectable, but only one is applied to each new window. Editing a preset design selects it for future placements; it does not change windows already placed. Deleting the selected preset design selects No grille.
Change a window already placed
Expand Placed windows and find the window:
- Add grilles adds a pattern to a plain window.
- Change pattern replaces the current pattern.
- The pattern name or Edit opens its current design, including individual bar settings.
- Hide keeps the design but makes it invisible; Show restores it.
- Delete removes the grille and leaves the window and its frame in place.
These controls affect that window only. Editing its grille hides the placement handles so the window stays clear to inspect. Click a window to reuse its settings, or choose a preset, to resume placing windows.
Copy a window’s size and grille
With O-framer active, click an existing window in the viewport or its name under Placed windows. The next opening picks up its width, height, fitting gap and grille, including individual bar sizes, positions, colour and hidden state. Copying a plain window selects no grille.
This also works after you resize the next opening: click the window you want to match and its measurements replace the preview’s current dimensions. The sidebar shows Next window: settings from…, followed by the current size and pattern.
Place the preview with Set, or resize it further while retaining the copied grille. The preview stays on the current target wall and is constrained to fit. Choosing a preset returns to that preset’s settings.
The copy is independent. Later edits to either window do not change the other. Click the source window again to pick up its latest edits.
Glass appearance and saving
New models use Solid glass by default, making grilles easier to see without interior studs showing through. Choose Model Color → Glass Mode → Translucent to see inside. This setting applies to the model’s glazing; reopened projects retain their saved glass mode.
Save the .strek project to retain placed windows, grille designs, individual bar settings and visibility. You can edit the grilles again after reopening. The reusable designs beneath a preset last for the editing session; save a placed window to retain its design in the project.
Grilles belong to the window assembly and move or delete with it. They are decorative parts and do not create separate timber cut-list rows or build-timeline steps.
