Create a draft assembly guide

Create editable assembly booklets for supported generated buildings, with specifications, measured drawings, substeps and parts tables.

Availability

PDF export settings

The export window shows the page count before you begin. Generate PDF is disabled above the selected limit: 10 pages for standard export, or 100 pages with premium branding (50 credits). The count includes the cover, every page and substep, and one entry for each selected BOM or cut-list appendix. Long appendix tables may continue onto extra sheets. Deselect appendices, remove pages, or select premium branding to fit your booklet. The window, fields and buttons use square corners.

Windows and doors in generated walls

Ordinary rectangular O-framer windows, doors and garage doors now have a guide adapter. The revised wall chapter includes the opening framing and excludes the original studs or plate sections that the tool replaced. Each opening has a large drawing subpage under its wall chapter, with a green header marker, opening width and height, distance from the left wall end in that view, and bottom height above the wall-frame base. Complete window/door units are hidden on these framing drawings.

A separate wall review page shows the complete units. The guide distinguishes the framing opening from the smaller modelled unit dimensions; these are not ordering dimensions. Current quantities include shortened members and bottom-plate segments. Header dimensions are model inputs, not structural calculations or an approved cutting schedule. Installation details and weather sealing still need project-specific review.

Use newly generated models for initial testing. Creating and deleting an opening now updates the model and timeline together. Original generator settings remain labelled as creation inputs. Existing booklet pages are preserved; a change in their part membership requires review before export. Generate a new draft after changing openings, and review any earlier edited pages separately.

Overlapping openings, sloped/tapered openings, loft/gable special hosts and dormers remain outside this adapter. Incomplete framing, moved geometry or an unresolved timeline blocks generation instead of producing a misleading drawing. Older models with stale removed-stud timeline entries should be regenerated; the reader does not guess replacements from names.

Garage foundation openings

The guide now supports door and garage-door cut-outs in the Garage starter’s foundation perimeter. O-framer splits the affected foundation sides into shorter pieces. These pieces stay together in the foundation chapter and are counted once; they appear only as reference beneath the wall and opening drawings. The foundation plan shows the actual cut-out widths alongside the outside dimensions.

For these door details, opening height and position use the modelled foundation base, below the timber wall frame. The green header marker and separate modelled unit dimensions remain. This represents the model’s openings, not an approved threshold or foundation construction detail.

Every foundation gap must match a recorded rectangular door opening. Missing corners, overlaps, misplaced pieces and unexplained gaps still stop generation. Save your project before refreshing the app, reopen it and create a new guide. The building does not need to be regenerated when its existing opening metadata and timeline are complete. Previously created booklet pages are preserved.

Sauna starter

The Sauna starter is now supported by the experimental guide. Its single-slope roof uses level wall plates, horizontal bottom chords and sloping top chords with two posts per frame. The current starter has 11 frames / 44 roof-frame members. The guide counts these timber members individually and adds a large, measured side-profile subpage. It does not describe them as certified prefabricated trusses. Check the two post heights and the connections against the roof design.

Gutter and hook views face the low roof edge. Separate fascia subpages show the low and high sides, including the additional high-side fascia board. Compact with drawing subpages creates 30 guide pages plus the cover; Detailed adds one subfloor page. Four final elevations are optional. Confirm the preview total if you already have pages or add PDF appendices.

House starter

Generate a fresh House to create a guide for its attic trusses and loft floor. The current starter has 18 complete attic trusses and 58 loft panels. Truss internals belong to the prefabricated assemblies; the guide does not list them as separate site-cut pieces. A measured loft plan follows the truss pages. Check panel joints, supports, truss end offsets and centre spacings against the model and supplier information. Modelled loft space does not establish habitable area or a floor load rating.

The reference House in Compact creates 43 pages plus the cover with large drawing subpages, or 39 plus the cover without them. Detailed adds another page. These options, including four final elevations, fit the 100-page premium PDF limit without earlier pages or appendices. If an older House reports missing roof-blocking entries, generate a fresh House; the generator now records the replacement blocking correctly. Previously saved guides retain your edits.

Create assembly guide is an experimental feature in Project Planner 2. Start with the default generated shed or a supported Cabin / Shed, Double Garage, House or Sauna starter. Review the preview before adding editable pages.

Make the first draft

  1. Generate the default shed in Build.
  2. Open Project Planner 2. Close another tool panel if it overlaps the Planner.
  3. Select Default View, then Create assembly guide.
  4. Review the proposed stages and expand a stage to inspect its parts.
  5. Choose Add pages to Planner 2.

The guide adds ordinary editable pages after your existing pages. It does not replace previous work or export a PDF automatically.

Main steps and larger drawing subpages

Partial 2D assembly illustrations (wall frames, openings, wall layers and roof details) now omit the extra ground line, both in Planner 2 and in new PDF exports. Dimension lines and labels remain. Full-building front, back and side elevations keep their ground line, including the four optional final elevations. Quad view and its elevation exports keep it too. Existing pages use this display change automatically; re-export to update an older PDF. A manually composed side view counts as an elevation when it shows the complete model; hiding parts or selecting a partial build makes it an assembly illustration.

Add large drawing subpages is enabled when you open the guide dialog. Main steps keep the instructions, specifications and parts tables. Subpages such as 8.1 and 8.2 provide larger drawings linked to that step. You can edit them, move them within the step, duplicate them or promote them to main steps using the normal Planner controls. Moving a main step also moves its subpages. Generate a new guide to use this layout; existing pages keep your edits.

The Double Garage includes a dimensioned foundation plan, a truss layout with actual centre spacings and a separate complete-truss profile. Fascia boards, bargeboards and gutter hooks receive larger location drawings. Teal highlights fascia or hooks, blue identifies inner bargeboards, and ochre identifies outer boards where present. Framing remains visible as reference; hooks are shown on the fascia before the gutters conceal them. Named callouts connect the quantities to the parts. Counts include both sides or gables, even when the drawing shows one side. Reference framing and repeated drawing views do not add material quantities.

Subpages are ordinary PDF pages. The Garage creates 32 pages plus the cover, or 37 PDF pages with the four final elevations. The Cabin creates 41 pages plus the cover with drawing subpages, within the 100-page premium PDF limit. Turning off Add large drawing subpages in Compact reduces it to 38 pages plus the cover. The complete-truss profile still remains a subpage when this option is off. The preview shows the actual total, including existing pages; appendices can add more.

Standard PDF exports support 10 pages. Premium exports now support 100 pages, including the cover; each main step and subpage counts separately. The existing premium charge remains 50 credits. Check the total when adding existing pages or appendices. Larger booklets take longer to capture and render.

During PDF capture, Planner 2 allows up to one minute of active-tab time for each drawing to become ready. Switching to another tab pauses this readiness timeout; returning lets the drawing settle before capture resumes. The exporter still checks that the saved parts are actually visible. If a page cannot be prepared, the error names the drawing number and title and explains whether the page, saved view or visible parts were not ready. Open that page, review the drawing and retry; existing pages are kept.

Notes, parts tables and measurement labels now export as selectable vector text, with vector table rules, dimension lines and callout leaders. They stay sharp when you zoom or print, while the model drawing remains an image. The existing note positions, wrapping and column alignment are retained. Re-export your existing Planner 2 pages to get the sharper text; you do not need to regenerate the guide. Previously downloaded PDFs are unchanged. Text already inside an imported image remains part of that image.

Drawing views explain location, not fixing or installation details. Review the main step and supplier requirements together with the drawing. Fixings, gutter fall and hook spacing are not automatically designed by this feature. Page titles, notes and saved colours remain editable; new EN/NB text follows the language selected when you create the guide.

The compact default shed guide opens with a project specification and completed-model illustration. It then shows the floor, each of the four wall frames, double top plates, roof structure and roof finish. It reads the actual timeline and component count; the number of parts can vary between projects.

Project information and language

The specification records generator inputs available when the model was created: nominal centre spacing (CC), wall height, timber dimensions, insulation preparation, sheet sizes, roof structure, pitch, overhang and finish/accessory choices. It also shows the measured wall footprint. Original inputs describe the generated design; check them after editing the model.

CC means centre-to-centre, not the clear gap between members. Actual end spacings can differ from the nominal input. The wall drawings show measured centre positions. Frame heights exclude the second top plate when it appears in a later step.

Insulation switches prepare the assembly for insulation. They do not generate insulation material. A simplified roof surface is also not a count of individual tiles or a complete roof build-up. Member dimensions are model inputs, not structural calculations.

Choose English or Norsk using Autostrek’s language setting before creating a guide. The preview, new page titles, instructions and generated part labels use that language. Table headings follow the app language in the editor and export. Existing page text and your edits remain unchanged. Written guide dimensions and parts tables use millimetres; drawing measurement labels follow the app unit setting.

Creation inputs now survive saving and reopening a new project, including in a fresh browser session. Older files without that record say Not recorded; the guide never substitutes the current generator form settings. Existing specification pages keep their saved text.

The specification uses aligned label/value rows with light dividing lines, separate width and length values, two overall dimensions on the model, and a full-width explanation below the tables. Roof battens and accessories each have their own row.

Floor drawings

The floor frame is shown from above, with overall width/length and actual joist centres. The table separates inner joists, edge joists and the two end perimeter members. End spacings may be shorter than the nominal CC. Dense layouts label one example of each distinct spacing and explain that in the note.

In Compact, the floor table includes subfloor pieces but the drawing hides them to reveal the frame. Detailed adds a separate top view of the subfloor. Full and cut pieces are grouped by recorded sheet size; up to four sizes receive colour-matched, editable callouts. With more sizes, a combined table is used. These are modelled pieces, not a sheet-purchasing or cutting-optimisation calculation.

Enabling floor insulation preparation adds a separate view of support boards, closure panels and battens. The frame is hidden in that view to expose the layer. It does not include insulation material. Without extra drawing subpages, the tested insulated shed has eleven compact pages plus the cover; the default detailed shed has fifteen pages plus the cover.

Wall layers and insulation preparation

The guide now supports Prepare for insulation, wall battens, both cladding modes and corner boards on the gable/collar-tie shed. This setting adds preparation layers; insulation material itself is not included. Starter buildings marked Prepared for insulation use the same distinction.

After the frame and roof, the guide adds separate wall elevations for wind-barrier boards, ventilation battens, cladding and corner boards, in that order. Disabled layers are omitted. These pages use explicit part selections; they do not change the animation timeline. Corner pages include cladding as a reference, but count only corner boards in their table.

Tables list quantities, names and dimensions for the selected layer. Simple-panel cladding is labelled Cladding surface: its count is not a number of individual boards. Wind-barrier panel counts are model panels, not purchased stock sheets. Dimensions on shaped panels/boards describe maximum extents; check the drawing for their shape and use Cutlist / BOM for area quantities. Long lists continue on extra pages.

Without extra drawing subpages, the tested shed with wall preparation, 23×48 battens, cladding and corner boards creates 25 compact pages or 31 detailed pages, plus the cover. Both simple-panel and individual-board cladding are supported. Floor preparation and final elevations add further pages. Longer booklets use the existing premium export options; inspect the PDF page estimate before exporting.

Product specifications, joints, ventilation details, fixing choices and cutting allowances still need review. The generator does not identify a particular wind-barrier product or calculate insulation quantities.

Cabin / Shed starter and roof details

You can now generate a guide for the unchanged Cabin / Shed starter. It includes the ridge beam and end-wall supports, insulation preparation, wall layers, roof counter battens, tile battens, flashing, gutter hooks, gutters and downpipes.

The support pages show each end wall in 2D, with overall dimensions and the ridge post highlighted. The table lists only the added supports. The beam page gives its actual model cross-section and length. The guide puts supports before the beam and roof layers before the covering, even when their animation entries appear elsewhere. It does not change the animation timeline.

Roof tables count individual members and gutter-hook instances. Assembly groups do not add extra material quantities. Gutters and pipes show recorded lengths and diameters; Ø means diameter and means no size is recorded. Curved pipe transitions are model parts, not a shopping list of elbows. Check product specifications and Cutlist / BOM before ordering. Beam dimensions are model dimensions, not a structural recommendation.

Both Compact and Detailed can export this preset as one premium booklet with large drawing subpages. Without extra drawings, Compact creates 38 pages plus the cover and Detailed creates 42 pages including the cover. Optional final elevations add four more. The preview warns above the 100-page premium limit; reduce pages or split the document if your combined booklet exceeds it. The premium credit charge is unchanged.

Unsupported model parts are grouped into expandable categories, so you can inspect their original component names. The House attic variant, Sauna’s standard single-slope roof and ordinary wall openings are covered above. Dormers and special opening hosts still need their own adapters.

Double Garage: foundation and prefabricated trusses

The guide supports the Double Garage starter with its original, exact-fit W-frame trusses. Generate the starter, open Project Planner 2 in Default View, and create a fresh guide. With large drawing subpages it produces 32 editable pages, or 36 with the four final elevations. Without extra drawing subpages the counts are 27 or 31. The PDF adds its existing cover; these booklets use the existing premium export option.

The foundation page shows a measured top view and aligned outside, inside-opening, height and thickness values. The unmodified starter has four perimeter segments. Door or garage-door cut-outs split those sides into more pieces and add measured gap widths, as described above. These modelled segments are not floor joists, a concrete order or a complete foundation design.

The truss plan shows 13 complete trusses, with actual centre gaps of 576 and 600 mm. A separate side view shows one complete W-frame. The saved truss has a 6,200 mm span and 28° pitch; the plan’s outer dimensions include overhangs. Internal chords and webs stay visible with their parent assembly and are not presented as site-cut timber. Blocking is a separate following stage.

The preset does not calculate truss suitability for local loads. Member sizes, bearing, connections, lifting and bracing must follow the truss supplier’s design and installation instructions. Missing truss members, unsupported truss variants and incomplete foundation perimeters stop generation for review.

The garage’s hidden roof reference shapes now remain hidden after saving and reopening, so they do not appear on isolated foundation or wall pages.

Generated measured pages turn on Plan measurements when opened. You can still switch the display off. Grid and axes remain off in booklet views. Existing saved pages are not rewritten; create a fresh guide for these new chapters.

Clean drawings

Grid and XYZ axes are hidden when entering booklet pages. Returning to Default View or closing the Planner restores the previous workspace settings. You can toggle helpers while reviewing, but PDF capture omits the grid and axes. Intentional dimensions and CC measurements stay visible.

Choose the level of detail

Compact groups the main building stages. The current default shed creates nine pages; the existing PDF exporter adds a cover, giving ten pages without appendices.

Detailed separates more floor and roof stages. Add four final 2D elevations adds front, back, left and right views of the completed model. Wall-frame steps already use isolated 2D views in either mode.

The preview includes existing pages in its PDF page estimate. Standard export allows ten pages including cover and appendices. Longer booklets use the existing premium export options and limits. Review the export dialog for any credit cost.

Review and edit

Each page stores its own view, recorded timeline position and visible parts. Notes summarize the stage and selected material groups. The four wall pages show studs in green and plates in blue. Their callouts list quantities and member dimensions. Other stages use a callout to identify an example part.

Pages now retain their selected parts when the animation timeline is reordered. If timeline parts are added or removed, a review notice appears. Check the drawing and its notes; use the timeline to select a new stage, or choose Reviewed — keep this selection to retain the surviving selected parts. PDF export lists any pages still requiring review before it starts. Moving or resizing existing parts also needs manual review; the notice checks part membership, not every geometry change.

In Object Groups, simplified roof surfaces and their ridge cap are now under Roof → Roof covering. The count describes model components, not individual tiles. This display-name change does not rename the model’s internal parts.

Change page names, camera views and notes using the normal Planner controls. The first version shows part dimensions in millimeters. The preview provides the full grouped parts list; long page summaries direct you to Cutlist/BOM for the complete list.

Wall drawings include overall width, frame height and actual stud-centre spacing. Upper dimensions measure from one stud centre to the next; end gaps may be smaller than the internal gaps. The height describes the frame on that page, excluding the second top plate shown in a later step. Long, densely framed walls show one example of each distinct spacing and explain this in the page note.

The dimensions use the existing measurement tool and remain editable. PDF export draws dimension lines, end ticks and labels from the saved measurements. The optional final elevations are orthographic views of the completed building without automatic dimensions; you can add supported measurements in Planner 2. Page viewing hides grid and axes, and PDF capture omits them.

Notes and parts tables

Notes and callouts use simple white cards with fine grey borders. Parts lists display Qty, Name and Dimensions (mm) columns, including lists created with the earlier prototype. This also applies to the PDF.

Select a note and edit its text in the normal note field. A line such as 9 × Rafter (48 × 98 × 2029 mm) displays as a table row; instructions before or after a list remain ordinary text. Existing wall callouts with quantity and dimensions on separate lines also display as tables.

Specification headings use ## Heading. Each aligned specification row is a label and value separated by a tab. These are still editable text, not locked form fields. Ordinary sentences containing colons are left as prose. Notes can now span the full page-safe width.

Drag a card to move it. Select or hover over it to reveal the resize handle in its lower-right corner. Widen a card if a name or dimension wraps too much, and increase its height if text is cut off. Earlier notes keep their saved positions and sizes; you do not need to recreate a guide for the white styling or tables. New guides use smaller boxes for short parts summaries.

Save and export

Return to Default View and save your .strek project to retain editable pages. Reopen it and inspect the pages before using the existing PDF button. A PDF is a separate document and does not replace the editable project.

Project saving now retains model parts hidden by the current page or timeline stage, so other booklet pages keep their geometry after reopening. Returning to Default View is still recommended before saving page-specific exploded or moved views.

PDF export waits for each page’s selected model parts to finish appearing before taking the image. This prevents empty drawings when a longer booklet switches quickly between isolated roof layers.

File compatibility: new saves use .strek version 3 to preserve creation inputs and page part selections. The updated Autostrek app opens existing version 1 and 2 files. Older installed Viewer versions can reject new version 3 files; use a compatible Viewer build or export GLB for geometry viewing. Keep the original .strek as the editable source.

After changing or regenerating the building, review or recreate the guide. Old pages are not automatically rewritten, and regenerated parts may have different IDs. If you made a guide with the earlier prototype, create a fresh guide to get the measured, coloured wall pages.

Current boundaries

Base stages follow the recorded model sequence; wall layers follow the guide’s explicit layer order. Neither verifies a real construction method or generates connections, fixing specifications, structural checks or temporary bracing instructions. Review the draft before using it as project documentation.

Supported starting points include timber-floor buildings with gable roofs and collar ties or a ridge beam, and the Cabin / Shed, Double Garage, House and Sauna presets described above. The opening adapter covers the rectangular main-wall cases described above. Other foundations, other truss templates, special opening hosts, dormers and unrecognized or unsequenced parts still need dedicated coverage. The preview explains unsupported inputs or parts and stops generation.
