Recommended test
Revolve a small rectangular profile that sits beside, rather than across, its axis.
- On an origin plane, draw a rectangle entirely to one side of an in-plane axis and finish the sketch.
- Choose Revolve, select the closed region and choose that axis.
- Preview a partial angle, then enter 360 degrees for a full turn.
- Choose New body, Apply and inspect the resulting ring from several views.
Prepare a closed profile and axis
Draw the section in Sketch mode and finish the sketch. Choose Revolve, then select a closed Profile in the list or with Pick.
The Axis can be an in-plane world axis, a straight sketch or construction line, or a straight solid edge picked in the viewport. World axes pass through the world origin, which may differ from the centre of your drawing.
The axis must lie in the profile’s plane. The profile can touch it, but cannot cross it. A rectangle away from the axis makes a ring; a suitable section touching the axis can make a solid turned form.
Set the angle
Enter Angle (°) or use the purple angle handle to turn the preview. Click again to fix the angle. Negative angles and Reverse turn in the opposite direction.
Symmetric about sketch plane distributes the turn about the original profile plane. Inspect both sides when making a partial revolution. A zero angle does not create a solid.
Choose the result
Use New body for a separate turned part. Choose Join, Subtract or Intersect and a Target body when using the revolution to modify an existing part.
Check the complete preview, then Apply. Cancel, Escape or leaving the operation discards the pending change. The source sketch remains in place.
Diagnose a failed revolution
Check the axis before changing the profile: it must be straight, in the correct plane and on the intended side of the region. Remove open gaps or self-intersections. If the turned shape crosses itself or the Boolean result is invalid, reduce the angle or simplify the section.
Changing the source sketch later does not automatically regenerate this body. Keep a saved checkpoint before further direct edits.
