Recommended test
Compare the motion of the same rectangle with Tilt and Wedge before applying either result.
- Draw a rectangle on a plane or flat body face, finish the sketch and select its region with Push/Pull.
- Choose Motion > Tilt, pick a straight boundary edge and enter a small angle such as 15 degrees.
- Inspect the rotated cap and curved connecting wall, then switch to Wedge.
- Enter a modest Rise and compare the unchanged footprint and straight side walls.
- Choose New body or a suitable target operation, Apply, then Undo to check recovery.
Choose the motion
Select a closed sketch region with Push/Pull in 3D mode. The panel offers three Motion choices:
| Motion | Result |
|---|---|
| Linear | Every point moves by the same signed distance along the sketch normal. |
| Tilt | The region rotates about a fixed straight boundary edge like a hinge. Its size stays the same; the free edge travels on an arc and creates a curved connecting wall. |
| Wedge | The fixed edge stays in place while the opposite side moves straight along the sketch normal. The footprint stays unchanged and the cap slopes. A rectangle produces straight, planar side walls. |
Tilt uses Angle from −90° to 90°. Wedge uses Rise in the current length unit, measured at the greatest perpendicular distance from the fixed edge. Intermediate points rise proportionally. With a curved profile boundary, Wedge retains that curved footprint; it does not turn every side into a flat wall.
Pick a fixed edge
After choosing Tilt or Wedge, click a valid straight outer boundary edge of the selected region. Candidate edges highlight on hover; the chosen edge is amber. Curved edges, hole boundaries and lines that cross through the region cannot serve as the fixed edge.
These controls operate on sketch regions. To make a hinged detail on a body, first draw a profile on its flat face. They do not directly tilt an arbitrary existing body face. Use Revolve for a broader rotation around another suitable axis.
Set the amount and preview
Move the pointer to adjust the outline, holding Shift for finer movement, or enter Angle/Rise. Click to fix the amount and calculate the exact result. The original solid remains visible during movement. Reverse changes the sign; zero is a starting pose and cannot be applied.
Changing from Tilt to Wedge retains the selected fixed edge but resets the amount to zero. Enter a new rise rather than treating an angle as a distance.
Choose New body, Join, Subtract or Intersect separately from the motion and sign. Join can add a wedge to a body; Subtract can cut a sloping recess when the volume extends into the selected target. Inspect the result before Apply. Cancel discards it.
Keep the source and result
The fixed edge remains in its original position. The committed body saves with the source sketch in .strek, while the sketch stays on its original plane. As with other Custom Solid operations, changing the source later does not replay the solid operation. Use session Undo/Redo or a saved checkpoint to revisit an earlier state.
