Recommended test
Confirm a real file can be saved and reopened before testing recovery on important work.
- Create a simple visible box or small generated model and save it with a unique test filename.
- Confirm the file in the selected folder or browser download list, then reopen that exact .strek.
- Save a second copy with Compress GLB changed and confirm both copies reopen with the same dimensions.
- Record the exact message if either operation fails and retain the first successful copy.
Save or Export is unavailable
The save/export controls need a model and wait while another operation is busy. Finish creating the model and allow the current operation to complete. GLB export also has its own plan gate; its availability is separate from saving an editable project.
Opening a project is available from an empty workspace. Save the current work before opening a different .strek, because loading replaces the current model.
Find the saved file
Depending on browser capabilities, Autostrek opens a system save dialog or starts a browser download. Complete the dialog if one appears. Otherwise check the browser’s download list and destination folder. An aborted picker or a dismissed dialog does not create a backup.
Confirm the filename, extension, modification time and nonzero file size. Reopen that exact file to verify its contents; a status message alone is not a restore test.
Read the file error
| Message or symptom | What it indicates | Next step |
|---|---|---|
| No file was selected, or the picker was cancelled | No project was loaded | Open the picker again and select the intended file. |
| Invalid encoding: expected UTF-8 JSON | The selected bytes are not readable as a .strek document |
Check that this is an original .strek, not a renamed GLB, PDF or archive. |
Failed to parse .strek JSON |
The document cannot be read as project JSON | Obtain another copy of the original file or try the last verified revision. |
| Validation or migration failure | The project structure/version could not be accepted | Keep the original and record the full message and the app version that saved it, if known. |
| Missing embedded GLB, decompression or scene-loading error | The stored model payload could not be restored | Retry a known-good copy and retain the failing file for diagnosis. |
Supported older project versions are migrated during loading. Renaming a different format to .strek does not convert it, and manually changing a version number is not a repair.
Compression and model recovery
Compress GLB changes how the embedded model is stored inside the project. The file still ends in .strek; loading handles supported compression automatically. Compression does not replace missing geometry or repair a damaged download.
If a small saved model works but one particular project fails, keep both examples and note which operation fails: Save, Open or GLB export. If loading finishes but the view is blank, continue with viewport recovery. Include the exact error, browser, filename/size and last successful step when reporting the problem.
