Recommended test
Check project portability without depending on data left in the current browser session.
- Add a model note and a Planner page containing a fresh temporary measurement to a small model.
- Return to Default view, save a .strek copy and confirm the file exists.
- Open the saved copy in a separate workspace session and inspect the note, groups and Planner page.
- Check local truss definitions, named measurement sets and quote work separately instead of assuming the file restored them.
Save the model and its working context
Saving .strek captures the model together with supported project state. That includes generated-object information, groups, units, camera and appearance settings, the current Build Generator configuration, model notes and Planner pages. A recorded Build Timeline and buy-list merge information can also travel with the project.
Use the save control to create an actual file. A changed page or a remembered preference is not evidence that a newer .strek backup exists.
Different kinds of saved data
| Item | Where the current workflow keeps it | How to check it |
|---|---|---|
| Model, model notes and current generator settings | The saved .strek project |
Open the file in another workspace session and compare. |
| Planner pages, page notes and captured measurements | Planner state inside .strek |
Revisit each page after reopening. |
| Named Tape Measure/CC measurement sets | The current session’s memory | Keep important dimensions in page captures or separate records before reloading. |
| Unit and grid-spacing preferences | Browser-local settings; the project also stores its unit | Check both settings when changing browsers or opening a file. |
| Saved Truss Builder definitions | The browser’s local truss library | Record the definition’s settings if it must be recreated elsewhere. |
| Build Generator preset library | Account-backed storage with local caching | Check the intended account and that the saved preset appears there. |
| Quote Builder draft, page design and entered commercial details | The current Quote Builder session | Export the PDF and keep a separate editable record of the quote inputs. |
The generator configuration stored in a project and the preset library are separate. Likewise, a truss already inserted in a model does not mean the recipient receives your reusable truss library.
Preserve the right measurements
Named measurement sets currently have no browser-storage or .strek restore path. Planner captures the current temporary measurements and CC measurements into its page state; it does not capture the named-set library. A label visible from a named set should not be assumed to travel with the page.
For a dimension that must survive reopening, create it as a current measurement on the intended Planner page, save the project and verify that page in another session. See measurement sets for the distinction.
Move work between browsers or computers
- Return to the intended full-model view and save a versioned
.strekfile. - Keep required PDFs, renders, reference images and quote inputs alongside it as separate files where applicable.
- Open the project at the destination and check a known span, a model note and every important Planner page.
- Recheck local preferences and reusable libraries before continuing.
Browser-local data belongs to that browser profile and site. Clearing site data or changing profiles can remove access to those preferences and libraries. A same-session check can also leave temporary work visible, which is why a separate-session reopen is a stronger portability check.
