Recommended test
Practice on a disposable custom solid so every context-menu action has an obvious result.
- Create or select a rectangular custom solid and open its viewport context menu.
- Choose Copy, move the duplicate away and confirm the source remains.
- Choose Select similar on a repeated building member and inspect the resulting selection.
- Use Edit solid on a custom solid, then cancel; delete only the temporary duplicate.
Basic selection
Click visible model geometry to make it the current target for compatible tools. Selection is used by the context menu, Move Tool, appearance controls and parts of Measure & Place. A tool can apply its own selection mode, so cancel the active tool if ordinary selection feels unavailable.
Context-menu actions
The current object menu includes Copy, Select similar and Delete. Rectangle and Path custom solids can also expose Edit solid. Copy creates a separate object with a small initial offset and selects the duplicate; move it farther into clear space so both objects are easy to distinguish.
Delete removes the selected target. To recover a tracked context-menu deletion, switch Move Tool off, move focus outside editable fields and press Ctrl/Cmd+Z. Inspect the restored object before continuing. This recovery uses a limited deletion history, so save a checkpoint before deleting a large generated group or an object whose identity is unclear.
Select similar
Select similar works from shared object identity. It is useful for repeated generated members that should move or receive another compatible operation together. Inspect the highlighted set before acting; visual similarity alone does not guarantee two objects share the same identifier.
Keep selection predictable
Hidden, transparent or overlaid display geometry can make selection less obvious. Temporarily use a solid color display and unhide the relevant group. If a helper or measurement is intercepting the task, switch its tool off. For complex changes, test on a duplicate before altering the original.
