Edit generated framing and building parts

Push/Pull faces, finish edges and cut holes in supported studs, beams, rafters, truss members and finish boards.

Right-click a supported part and choose Edit object. The selected part turns green while you work. The editor has Push/Pull, Fillet, Chamfer and Cut, using the same operation icons as Custom Solids.

Which parts can be edited?

Part Editing scope
Straight wall studs and rectangular floor joists One part, or explicitly linked components
Plain rectangular beams, plates, posts and Manual construction members One part
Notched opening studs, headers and cripples One part, retaining the original profile
Supported gable/hip rafters, gable rafter studs and A-frame/W-frame timber One member, retaining its seats and angled ends
Supported dormer, extension and porch/balcony framing One member, including marked opening-edge members and gap fillers
Supported fascia, bargeboards, soffits, corner boards, tile/counter battens, separator boards and entrance slabs/steps One part

The menu shows Edit object only when that part has supported geometry. Regenerate older buildings to enable newly supported members. Arbitrary curved or compound imported meshes are not automatically converted into editable parts. Scaled or mirrored objects may need those transforms undone first. Native Custom Solids keep their own workspace.

For trusses, right-click the timber member to edit it. Select truss returns to the complete assembly. Other trusses and the saved library template keep their shapes; connector plates do not refit automatically.

Push/Pull to a face

  1. Choose Push/Pull, click a flat face and move the pointer to extend or shorten it.
  2. Hover another object’s parallel flat face. It highlights with To face · Click to set.
  3. Click to fix the distance, then choose Apply operation.
  4. Inspect the draft and choose Apply to model to commit it.

Moving away from the target resumes free movement. You can also enter a precise distance or use Pick another face. Angled and curved faces are not snap targets. The destination object stays unchanged.

Middle-mouse orbit and Shift+middle pan work during Push/Pull. Navigation pauses the preview; moving the pointer afterward resumes it. Middle-click does not apply the edit. Escape cancels the current operation.

Edge finishing, holes and notches

Use Fillet or Chamfer on eligible edges. In Cut, choose Circle or Rectangle and pick a flat face. Set the diameter or width/height, position the centre by dragging or entering offsets, and choose Through all or a depth. A rectangle crossing an outer edge makes an open notch. Hold Shift to bypass mouse snapping; typed measurements remain exact.

Apply operation changes the draft. Apply to model commits it; Cancel leaves the original model intact. A cut that misses, removes the whole part or splits it into separate pieces is rejected. To use another solid as the cutting shape, use Cut with object.

One part or linked components

This object makes the edited part independent. Edit linked components (N) or Apply to > Linked components deliberately applies the shape to the stated group of compatible studs or joists. Review the count before committing; only the selected member is previewed. Inside/outside cuts follow each wall’s orientation. Different storeys, lengths and materials remain separate. Identical dimensions alone do not link ordinary boxes or copies.

Apply shape to matching components (N) reuses an independent edit on eligible untouched members with matching original size, family, building/storey and material. Other edited parts and copies retain their shapes.

Find, reset and retain edits

Customized parts retain their names and groups and receive a purple Edited badge. Expand Edited objects above the sidebar groups to find them, including hidden parts. Reset customization restores the original generated shape, including its notch or slope. Workspace Undo restores the previous state.

Exact shapes save with the .strek project. Compatible generated-member edits survive regeneration. If a source size, position or identity changes, Review edited objects explains the conflicts and highlights them in a rotatable view. Choose Reset selected and rebuild, or cancel and keep the current model. Edited copies and untracked older parts require review; this does not make every manual move or deletion part of the generator recipe. Save a project copy before replacing a heavily customized model.
