Use keyboard shortcuts and undo

Find the workspace shortcuts, Move Tool axis locks and the limits of undo before relying on them.

Workspace shortcuts

Finish typing in a field before using a shortcut. The workspace ignores its letter shortcuts while an input or text area has focus. Check the toolbar after switching tools because starting an interactive tool can end another tool’s mode.

Key Action What to check
T Toggle Tape Measure Starting it also switches off Custom Solid.
M Toggle Move Tool Confirm which objects are selected before dragging.
O Toggle perspective/orthographic and select Front This changes the direction as well as the projection.
Space Toggle the Build Timeline player’s minimized state Use the player’s Play/Pause button to control playback.

While Move Tool is active

Key or gesture Action
Ctrl on Windows or Cmd on macOS when beginning a drag Duplicate the object before moving.
Shift Start source or target glide when a compatible snap is available.
Left arrow Toggle the X-axis lock.
Right arrow Toggle the Z-axis lock.
Up or Down arrow Toggle the Y-axis lock.
Escape Cancel the current snap session or drag.
Ctrl/Cmd+Z Undo a recorded move operation.

The arrows refer to model axes, so a screen-left arrow does not necessarily move the object toward the left side of the screen. The numeric glide field keeps the arrow keys for editing when that field has focus. See Move, copy and snap objects for the full workflow.

Understand which action undo will affect

Undo is specific to the active workflow. With Move Tool active, Ctrl/Cmd+Z uses its move history. With Move Tool off and focus outside editable fields, the same shortcut can restore a tracked object removed through the viewport’s Delete action.

These are limited histories: the current implementation retains up to 50 move entries and 30 deleted-object entries. They are not a project-wide timeline of every edit. Opening Framer has its own reverse-order steps, and Custom Solid has its own draft and region controls. Do not assume that generator replacement, Clear, page deletion or every solid edit can be reversed by this shortcut. The move and deleted-object handlers do not provide a matching redo shortcut.

Use a saved checkpoint for larger changes

Press undo once and inspect the result before repeating. If the wrong kind of history is active, change tools deliberately. For regeneration, complex edits or loading another project, use a verified .strek checkpoint as the recovery point.
