Recommended test
Import one small product with known dimensions before furnishing a complete building.
- Choose a local IFC or GLB file in Import product and compare the preview dimensions with the manufacturer's dimensions.
- Enter a product name, enable Include in BOM as one purchased item, then place it on a floor.
- Move, rotate and copy the product; orbit during a move and check that the object stays in place while navigating.
- Open the BOM and check that the two copies count as two complete items, without internal parts appearing as lumber.
- Save as .strek, reopen the project and confirm placement and Product details are retained.
Start with a downloaded product
Use Import product in the CAD toolbar to open an IFC or GLB file from your computer. For example, download a compatible product file from BIMobject or a manufacturer’s website first, then import it into Autostrek. This first release uses local files; it does not connect to an online product catalogue.
Choose a file containing just the product you need, such as a toilet, cabinet or piece of furniture. A complete IFC building becomes one assembly, not a set of editable Autostrek walls and framing. The Windows calculation engine is not required for importing products.
Check size and orientation
Inspect the preview and the width, height and depth in millimetres. Compare them with a known manufacturer dimension before placing the model. IFC units are converted automatically; GLB normally uses metres. Change Source units or Up axis only if the preview has the wrong scale or orientation. Unit changes scale the entire product uniformly.
You can enter the product name, manufacturer, product code and source URL. Source and imported properties shows retained information from the file; availability depends on what the source contains. Manufacturer property values stay in their original language.
Place and arrange
Choose Place in model and click a visible surface or the ground. The placement anchor is the bottom centre of the product. Nearby model features and the ground grid can help with alignment; hold Alt for free placement. Escape cancels.
Use the ordinary Move and copy, Rotate and visibility tools for the complete assembly. Orbit, pan and zoom pause free movement; move the pointer afterward to continue without a jump. Right-click Product details, or use its toolbar button with a product selected, to inspect information and change its BOM choice.
Include complete items in the BOM
Enable Include in BOM as one purchased item if the product belongs in your quantities. Each placed copy counts as one complete item. Internal meshes do not become lumber or cutting lengths. Product information does not automatically provide a supplier price; review purchasing coverage separately.
Save the project as .strek to retain geometry, placement and product details. The original import file is not needed when reopening the saved project.
Current limits and troubleshooting
This is an early import release. Files are limited to 50 MB, 3,000 meshes and one million triangles. Detailed curved products may need a few seconds of preparation during import or reopening. Accelerated picking and snapping retain the full model detail; file size alone does not describe a model’s complexity.
Use static, self-contained GLB files. External images, animation, skins, GPU instances and Draco/Meshopt/KTX2 compression are not supported in this release. If a file is rejected, try a static, uncompressed export with embedded resources. Revit/RFA and Archicad files need a compatible export first.
Imported products do not create wall openings, support native shape editing or participate in structural calculations. Use Autostrek’s building and opening tools for those tasks. Report an import problem in the Bug Reports forum, including the format, file size and steps that failed.
