Recommended test
Measure one known generator dimension with each relevant snap mode and compare the endpoints.
- Start Tape Measure and choose Smart snapping.
- Click two known model corners and compare the result with the generator input.
- Repeat with Model only, then try Grid only on two visible grid intersections.
- Toggle labels and clear only the temporary test measurements.
Pick a snap mode
Smart snapping selects useful grid or model targets according to context. Grid only ignores model geometry. Model only targets visible model features. Choose the narrowest mode that makes the desired endpoint unambiguous.
Place two points
Click the start and end of the distance. Use an aligned orthographic view for footprint, height and elevation checks; perspective is useful for orientation but can hide which depth plane received the click.
After picking the first point, you can also enter an exact Length in the viewport input. Move toward the intended direction first, type a positive length in the displayed unit and press Enter to complete the measurement. Typing updates the preview; Enter commits it. Escape cancels an unfinished measurement.
This is useful when laying out a construction from the grid: establish a direction, then specify its span without needing an existing object at the far endpoint.
Turn a measurement into a construction run
Check CC before completing a new measurement to create a center-to-center run. The run provides targets for generated profiles or saved trusses. Choose a shape, dimensions and extrusion to preview members, then generate them into the model.
The tool can distribute intermediate members by count, close a frame, move or lock separate runs, mirror an assembly and fit rectangular members to supports. Start with the CC construction workflow or follow the worked frame example.
CC does not convert existing standard measurements. Create a new run with CC checked when you need placement controls.
Read and manage labels
Measurement labels can be shown or hidden without deleting their data. Clear removes current temporary measurements. A named set keeps important measurements organized during the current session, but it is not a project backup. See measurement sets for persistence and Planner capture.
For CC, clearing the run removes its preview but leaves already generated model objects in place. Saving the run into a named set removes it from the current generation batch, even if the saved preview remains visible.
Use measurements as checks
Measure known dimensions after loading, regenerating, moving or editing geometry. A displayed value confirms the selected endpoints, not construction tolerances or clearance. Zoom in and inspect the snap dots whenever a result differs from expectation.
